Club Newsletter March 2010
Dear Member
The recent dinner dance was well attended in the Cohannon Inn at the end of February. The raffle raised a grand total of £600. Our two charities for this year were Kilronan Special School in Magherafelt and NI Chest Heart & Stroke. Each received a cheque for £1500. Well done everyone! Many thanks!
Memberships are now due as soon as possible, remember membership forms must be signed otherwise you will not get your membership card. Thanks to all who have paid, find enclosed your new card.
Our first Club outing will be on Easter Monday 5th April 2010. Starting point for this run is at Blackwater Cottage, 10.30 am. Where is that I hear some of you ask?! Head for Aughnacloy, take the main Monaghan road and on the right hand side beside the large filling station is the Blackwater Cottage. Finishing near Dungannon with a meal.
Anyone who wishes to attend the 2-day run please return entry forms to Trevor as soon as possible. If you are only attending for one day either Saturday or Sunday then please fill out the form. This is very important so we know how many people & vehicles to expect at this event. The closing date is the 12th April 2010, which is less than 3 weeks away!!
Shanes Castle May Day Steam Rally is on this year. Sunday 2nd & Monday 3rd May 2010. Yippee! Please note you need to book your vehicle into the rally. For booking forms contact Walter McNeill 02894464648. Closing date is 12th April 2010.
Hope to see you out on Easter Monday. So away you go, get the lorries out and give them a wee wash and head for Blackwater Cottage on April 5th.
Next club meeting Tuesday 13th April at 8pm in O’Kanes Bar, Randalstown
Happy Easter!

Chairman Report 2009
With all the doom and gloom of 2009 the club
has held up very well with 145 paid up
members.
This year the club made a donation of £2000 to pancreatic cancer a very big thanks to
every one for all there efforts.
We went to the Royal in Cookstown for our annual dinner this year and had a good nights
entertainment.
We had a couple of slide shows this year photos of 2008 events and the McKibben Bros DVD
proved very good with the result the club purchased a projector for further shows.
Our road runs were cut back to 6 this year this worked well with good turn outs at all the
events thanks to all the people who organised and helped in any way.
The memorial shield this year went to Trevor Haydock with his Commer.
Richie Bergin very kindly donated some money to the club and this was put to good use with a
new club banner being purchased.
In August Anne Marie very kindly organised a social occasion by means of a boat trip on Lough
Neagh this was a huge success thanks Anne Marie.
Also in August the club ran a trip to Pickering Steam Show where we had an excellent time.
In October we had a speaker from the Transport Training Services about new legislation for commercial
drivers this was very interesting to us all.
In January this year Anne Marie and Eamon were blessed with baby Ashley but this did not stop Anne Marie
with her work for the club we all thank you for an excellent job for 2009.
I would like to thank all the sponsors and people who brought gifts for the raffles it is very much appreciated.

From little acorns doth the oak tree grow, the same can be said about the Ulster Vintage Commercial Vehicle Club. During the 1870's if one owned a vintage lorry, Bus or fire engine the only road run available were the AOVC runs. These runs started in Belfast and finished at Armage, Portrush & Newry. When I attended my first Belfast to Portrush run in 1980 all 175 entrants were Pre-1939.....
